Abstract

The article includes domestic and foreign researches about using green infrastructure in cities; methods of conservation and further using atmospheric water; methods of prevention harmful effects of heavy rain. The consequences of heavy rains, namely flooding residential and public buildings, engineering communications, the destruction of road transport infrastructure, the destruction of improvement system, exorbitantly burden city budgets and require to searching ways to prevent or at least reducing the harmful effects. Excessive paving of urban areas, the destruction of green space led to a number of negative consequences, including changing in surface runoff conditions and, accordingly, decrease drainage ability of the soil. The existing drainage scheme provides tap of storm water from urban areas, including tap from sidewalks to residential and main streets, where arrange rain intake grates on the side stone of the roadway. To provision enough watering of plants during a certain period of the year, saving city water resources, reducing load on storm sewers, and, most importantly, to reduce the harmful effects of heavy rains like flooding urban areas use method of creating biodraining ditches.

Authors developed schemes of the location of bio-drainage ditches within the green lanes of city streets for cleaning and infiltration of atmospheric water into the ground. A catalog of plants for the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine has been developed. During choosing plants, their ability to withstand moisture and having aesthetic properties, the ratio of km of contamination of storm runoffs of city streets to the salt mixture that used in winter, was taken into consideration
