GETTING OF HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE STRAINS OF MICROORGANISMS FOR REMOVAL OF IRON AND MANGANESE FROM WATER
Abstract
High containing of iron and manganese in drinking is a serious problem for Ukraine. Different methods for removing these elements need to be modernized. Due to faster developing of biotechnology, it is important to use its methods in treatment of drinking water, particularly in removing iron and manganese. In our study we established the condition for getting mutant strains of highly productive strains of iron and manganese oxidizing bacteria: UV with a wavelength of 260 nm for 20 min. processing and nitrite acid with concentration of 0.03 M, 0.04 M for 20 min. Maximum efficiency removal of iron and manganese was recorded in mixed culture strain γ Leptotrix and strain β Sphaerotillus (to 98.6 % for both elements). Mutant strains were stored for further use.
Key words: mutants of iron– and manganese oxidizing bacteria, removing iron and manganese from water.
