Abstract

To characterize the duration of the elementary events of noise increase or decrease due to the car passes by the noise meter, the autocorrelation functions were calculated on the serial samples of the street noise level registrations.

It was shown that the duration of mentioned transport flow events can be significantly larger than standard periods of 2-3 or 5-6 seconds prescribed for the registration of the street noise levels generated by the city transport.

Under these conditions the standard deviation of equivalent noise level assessments cannot be estimated by the use of the usual statistics.

Keywords: noise, noise pollution, auto-correlation function, road traffic.
