EDUCATION REFORM AND FUTURE OF SAFETY FUNDAMENTALS COURSE AT UNIVERSITIES

Abstract

Тhe article highlights the main trends in education in the Safety Fundamentals course at universities. After taking this course, a student gets an idea of personal safety and acquires knowledge for the safe production in the field which he or she will operate in. Taking into consideration challenges and threats of our time, the concept of teaching the discipline should be based on students’ mastery of skills during emergencies. Readiness for actions in emergency situations depends on the moral and psychological training, namely the possession of appropriate knowledge and skills to provide self-help and aid to victims including psychological assistance, to use personal protective equipment, to be able to act in combat operations and respond to the signs terrorism.
While today's higher education reforms are being implemented, changes in the content and optimal forms of educational processes become a necessity as hours for students’ practical training should be increased. The reality demands higher level of safety culture and changes in the attitudes to the course by both public and universities.
